We’ll be sure to document the evening with lots of photos, but until then, here’s a taste of our latest office festivities:

We kicked off the week by coming to work dressed in our bundled, winter bests!

Meet the Winner of MyCorp’s Photo Contest!

Melissa Mae Photograpy

Congratulations to the winner of the “Show MyCorporation Your Business’s True Colors” photo contest, Melissa Wolf of Melissa Mae Photo! For this contest, we asked small business owners to sum up the heart of their business in a photograph. We wanted to see what your businesses are all about and what their true colors were like. Check out our interview with Melissa below on how she got her start with her business and her plans for her $1500 grand prize!

What prompted you to start Melissa Mae Photo?

My husband bought me a camera for my birthday the summer after we had our first daughter. He said he saw something in the photographs I had been taking. So my husband and biggest supporter bought me a camera and told me to go for it. I started off just taking pictures of my daughter and then little by little it turned into friends asking for pictures and then their friends asking for pictures. What eventually got me to take it to the next level was realizing the importance of preserving memories. An old college computer hard drive crashed that same summer. I lost about 7 years worth of photographs and memories on there. Wedding, births, our honeymoon, countless vacations, etc. I wanted to help people capture their memories and also more of my own. (Back up your files!!)

What’s the best part of owning your own business?

Getting to work with my family!!! 99% of the time my family is at the shoots (when it’s appropriate). My kids help get kids to smile or feel more comfortable. Incorporating people that are important to me makes it so much more fulfilling and FUN. My youngest is obsessed with taking pictures. She will set up little scenes with her and her sister and just go to town. It makes me happy that I get to share my passion with my family. That I am also home for homework, dinner and sports but that I also get to show my daughters what it’s like to follow your dreams. It’s so very important to me to be a Mom first, but I also try to be a good example of a strong, passionate woman. I’m happy that I get to do that everyday.

Do you have a favorite subject to photograph?

My own family. My two daughters are my muses. Their vibrance for life keeps me excited. Their ideas, Halloween costumes and summer beach days inspire me every single time. More and more though, I’m really enjoying photographing in the water. There is something so peaceful and calming about it. It’s definitely been a new avenue I have really enjoyed exploring.

It’s easy to see by looking at your website that your family plays a large role in fueling your inspiration. How does that inspiration affect your work?

Family is my life. My husband and my daughters are absolutely everything to me. I love seeing in other families what I see in my own. Capturing those little moments that I know are special to me for another Mother or Father is such an honor.

Finally, how will you spend the $1500!?

Oh my goodness – I am really excited to invest the money back into my business. Some new equipment being the first thing on my list. I am so in love with water photography, so, perhaps a wide angle lens for the ocean. Or maybe I’ll just get a jump start on paying taxes this year!

Kicking Off The Magical Month of MyCorp!

We’ve just entered the month of December, so you know what that means…. time for the “Magical Month of MyCorp!” Each day during the month of December, we do something special to keep the holiday spirit alive and well while we’re working away! This has been a tradition for a couple years now in the MyCorp family, and we’re ecstatic to get the ball rolling this year!

Here’s a recap of the magical happenings that went on this week:

On Monday, we welcomed Hanukkah with latkes, wine, and a lit Menorah.

mycorpTuesday we picked up our tree and decorated it!

Wednesday was for blind chocolate tasting – no peeking at the flavors!

We found ourselves at a yummy pizza party on Thursday.

And along with our usual Friday bagels, we enjoyed some challah this morning.

Happy first week of the “Magical Month of MyCorp,” folks! Stay tuned for another week of magic and a look at our holiday party next week!

Throwback Thursday: A Look at MyCorp’s Early Website Designs!

MyCorporation is now into its fifteenth year of business – 15 wonderful years of helping entrepreneurs to create their own small business and get it started on the right foot!

We were one of the first, online document filing services, and the internet was a very different place fifteen years ago. To celebrate our quindecennial anniversary and our heritage as an early online business, we thought it would be interesting to go through the archives and look at what MyCorp’s site used to look like, and how it has changed over the years. It’s Not About “Surviving” As a Working Woman But Keeping a Great Attitude

My mom and me!

One of my earliest and strongest memories from when I was a little girl was watching and getting ready for the day every morning with my mom. Mom got ready for her work day while simultaneously making breakfast and helping me get ready for school. My mother ran the Anesthesia Laboratory at UCLA and it was a job that took up a lot of her time. Despite the constant hubbub at the hospital she dealt with, I also have vivid memories of her still attending each one of my cheerleading games and of her picking me up after school every day, without fail. Even later in life, when I had my own kids, she graciously watched them one day a week for me up until she retired – and now she’s at least two days per week!

All throughout my childhood and young adult life, there was no other option in my mind to be when I grew up than a hard-working career woman. My mom taught me from a very young age how to be strong in the workplace as well as in every other facet of my life.

What MyCorp is Most Thankful For in 2012

We have A LOT to be thankful here over at MyCorp – it has been an awesome year, and it has been an absolute blast helping small business owners turn their dreams into an actual business. While we could go on and on and on listing all the people and groups we want to say thank you to, that wouldn’t make a very interesting blog post. Instead, we’ve narrowed the list down to our top five. (more…)

And the Winners of MyCorp’s Gingerbread House Challenge Are…

Last Friday, the MyCorp team took a break from the work day to take on the challenge on building gingerbread houses – with a twist. Each team was given only 30 minutes, 2 packages of graham crackers, a can of frosting, and a huge pile of candy to build the ultimate gingerbread house. And boy were our teams creative! Check out the winners below and their creative gingerbread houses! (more…)

MyCorp’s Winter Wonderland Decorating Contest!

Decorating for the holidays is not something MyCorporation takes lightly! Last winter, The Magical Month of MyCorp was established, where each day of December included a festive activity for the office to partake in. One day we’d have a cookie exchange, the next we’d all be trying our luck at the lottery with Scratch-offs for everyone in the office, and another day our CEO Deborah would head out and pick up Starbucks for everyone to beat that 2:30 feeling back with.

This year, the Magical Month of MyCorp is back in action and the activity of decorating the office has turned into pure winter wonderland mayhem. In fact, the office has been so gung-ho about decorating that it became a contest between the departments.

Here are MyCorp’s proud victors: (more…)

Happy Halloween MyCorp Blog Readers!

Though it’s too early to be out trick or treating, the MyCorp office is currently dishen’ out our own treats at our Halloween Holiday Party! With a break room adorned with cartoon bat table cloths, skull streamers, and glowing orange lights the MyCorp team is ready for Halloween office-style. Not to mention the tantalizing heap of pot-luck Halloween eats currently piled on the break room tables; spooky Subway sandwiches, monsterous mini hot-dogs, slippery salad, and creepy cake to name a few treats.

We hope you all are indulging in your own share of holiday appropriate goodies and staying safe. Happy trick or treating!

Notice anything different?

We hope so!  Our tech and web design teams have been working around the clock to re-design our website, and we think they did an awesome job.

Cats are always relevant.

Plus, along with the facelift, we’ve added all sorts of new content to our learning center, new videos, new landing pages, and more information about the most popular types of business filings to help everyone, whether they are simply looking to file for a DBA or they want to take the steps to incorporate their business, make an informed decision.

In the words of our CEO Deborah Sweeney, it’s an awesome day in the land of MyCorp.
