50 States of Incorporation: Missouri

Missouri – the “Show-Me” state – is the subject of this week’s 50 states of incorporation, but first we want to show you why Missouri is such a great place to start a business. Missouri has long-been an important economic hub because America’s three great rivers – the Missouri, the Mississippi, and the Ohio – all flow through the state. And though shipping has died down and Missouri is no longer the sole Gateway to the West, the state has shown an amazing propensity towards adaptation, and some of the most successful high-tech companies in the world call Missouri home.Incorporate in Missouri

Monsanto, one of the world’s biggest bio-technology companies, is based out of Missouri, as is Boeing Defense, Space & Security, a leading aerospace and defense-research firm. But the company that Missouri is most famous for has to be St. Louis’s Anheuser-Busch. It is, in fact, so loved that Busch’s St. Louis brewery was declared a national landmark in 1966.

Missouri knows how important small business is to the state, and the government offers loads of incentives and programs to help small businesses get started properly. Missouri lists many of the public resources that are available, and it is especially supportive of its agricultural industry; Missouri has 108,000 active farms, the second highest amount in the United States.

Which States Are The Best To Live In When It Comes To Taxes?

Although federal taxes are not dependent upon where you live in the United States, there are some drastic differences between how states collect taxes from their citizens – considering the different rates they tax for income, property, luxury goods, and even common necessities such as food and clothing. If you have flexibility about where you live, perhaps it is worth it to move to a state with lower taxation rates in categories that apply to you and your family.

Welcome to our weekly Business Basics post! In case you missed last week’s entry to the series, we are dedicating every Tuesday to¬†helping explain the facets and aspects of starting and running a business that typically get overlooked.

Initial and annual reports (also known in some states as Statements of Information), while not particularly glamorous, keep your business in good standing. Plus if you misfile them, or file them late, your corporation or LLC could be slammed with fees, or even dissolution. Two things that you clearly want to avoid. MyCorp Gives to Joplin

For the entire month of August, we’re giving aid to Joplin, Missouri after the recent devastation of tornadoes throughout the area that occurred on May 22nd. 8,000 homes and small businesses were destroyed and damaged in the aftermath of the natural disaster. Even more tragic was the loss of life that occurred with 160 people killed. Joplin is still picking up the pieces with aid from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, but still needs the help of donors and charities to assist them in mending and beginning life once more.
