How to Make the Most Out of a Shared Office Space

Once you’re set up in your new office, it’s time to make the most out a shared working environment. Besides from enjoying a fully furnished office, the support from a staff team and high-tech tools every time you require them; there are other factors you should keep in mind to make your experience truly valuable.

  • If you are not planning to expand in the near future, don’t bother with renting a huge office. One of the advantages of shared space is the flexibility of moving into an office with more footage, without any lease termination penalties. Plus, a smaller office will encourage a sense of collaboration and will prevent space from going underutilized.
  • If you need to travel constantly there’s no need for you to search for a coffee-internet once you arrive at another city. Most of the business centers that offer these type of offices have a presence around the world. This means, that from the moment you sign you’re also part of a global membership to ensure your team is able to work in any place where business is carrying your company.
  • Take initiative to introduce yourself to other members. A simple “hello” might turn into the next collaboration or client. Besides, you never know when can an inspiring conversation might take place or when new ideas could spark. If your thing is not talking, go to the community events so everyone is aware of who you are and what your company does.
  • Organize a workshop, conference or even a lunch for the community. Ask the community manager for help and get it organized. This is a great strategy to introduce your startup or big team and get to know all of the other people, and why not, a new client or referral.

One other secret: Community managers are a priceless resource in any shared office environment. They know everybody in the location, details about events, and they can help you network with other companies in the space. Additionally, they’re the ones you should talk to every time you have a doubt or issue.

  • Many of these spaces have great discounts for other companies nearby, events and conferences. Ask your community manager about this benefit. This is a great opportunity for you to enjoy the city and compliment a work-life balance.
  • We all know how it feels to be stuck in a desk without being able to concentrate or get inspired for the next report. The good news is, you can work from different contexts and “vibes” in a shared workplace, whenever you don’t feel to work from your desk. From communal tables, lounges or hidden corners, you can choose the area that makes you feel comfortable. Nevertheless, remember these common areas will be also used by other members, so make sure to clean up after yourself.

So, are you ready to make the most out of your shared office space?
