Entrepreneurs are busy people. There are many different hats to wear when you’re running a small business. Sometimes, this means we don’t always prioritize our personal health and wellness. A doctor’s appointment might be rescheduled for a later date, or cancelled altogether, in favor of focusing on work. This may seem like a good idea at the time. However, continued practice makes it difficult to prevent pancreatic cancer or other potential disease symptoms before they occur.
Our friends at the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) have joined our blog in honor of World Pancreatic Cancer Day. Take a look at the signs of the cancer’s symptoms and how to take action to prevent pancreatic cancer.
According to the team at PanCan, pancreatic cancer may cause only vague, unexplained symptoms. Some of these may include pain, typically located in the abdomen or back. You may also show signs of jaundice, which is a yellowing of the skin and/or eyes, with or without itching.
Other symptoms may include the following:
If you are experiencing one or more of these symptoms, PanCAN advises that you speak to your doctor immediately. Reference pancreatic cancer when you do so, too. Diagnosing the disease earlier is the best thing you can do for your health. You’ll have further access to better treatment options, like surgery, and it improves patient outcomes.
PanCAN strongly recommends consulting with pancreatic cancer specialists to prevent pancreatic cancer. These individuals have experience diagnosing and treating the disease. Individuals that see these physicians, who diagnose and treat a high volume of pancreatic cancer patients, will be able to improve their outcomes.
That’s great news. However, it does not exempt you from not seeing your doctor! Despite busy schedules, it’s important to schedule in routine doctors’ visits. This ensures that you pursue any symptoms that may be persistent and out of the ordinary for you.
This November is Pancreatic Awareness Month. Throughout November, people across America will unite to Demand Better in the fight against the world’s toughest cancer.
Pancreatic cancer will kill more Americans than breast cancer in 2018 and continues to be the only major cancer with a single-digit survival rate at a mere 9 percent. You can also take part in the Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Champion Program, which allows your organization to make a difference for one week of your choosing in November. As a Champion, you are helping lead the charge. You will be joining other companies, organizations, schools, hospitals, community centers, and more as they unite in this critical fight to prevent pancreatic cancer and end it.
