Prosperity Organic Foods — Fantastic B Corps

Mmm… Spreads with a side of social goodness! At Prosperity Organic Foods, the flagship product is the Rich & Creamy MELT® Organic, a luscious butter improvement that is truly good for you. Led by Meg Carlson, it is their company promise that each MELT Organic product is based on the real deal when it comes to dietary fats. Read on to find out more about Meg and her Boise, ID-based B Corp.

How Prosperity Organic Foods all began: “Prosperity Organic Foods, Inc., (‘POF’) creates great tasting, plant-based (not ‘nut-based’) alternatives to traditional animal-based products by leveraging our experience in healthy fats, especially Virgin Coconut Oil. The company’s flagship brand, MELT® was born from an authentic need for a plant-based alternative to butter because of personal digestive disorders, and is a proprietary ‘butter improvement’ that is truly good for you.

POF is committed to helping Moms and Dads make better food choices for their families and is building brand loyalty by delivering on our promises of integrity, authenticity and transparency in our words and actions. The company is also committed to sustainability, purity and fair trade sourcing of ingredients, and was first to feature Fair Trade Fair for Life organic virgin coconut oil and Fair Trade USA organic palm fruit oil in its Perfect Blend™, first to secure Non-GMO Verification, and first to utilize a ‘greener’ square package in the spreads category. Prosperity Organic Foods provides great tasting products of superior quality through innovative uses of healthy fats and oils that allow consumers to eat better, feel better and live better.”

Why we chose a B Corp: “Our company originally was established as an LLC in its R&D exploratory phase then reincorporated as a Delaware C Corporation while we worked diligently to meet the stringent criteria of converting to a B Corporation. We met this goal in 2016 and are pleased that it is fully aligned with our mission-driven commitment to people and the environment.”

A handful of our biggest successes:Our company celebrates the success of each consumer who discovers MELT because of their own need for products that are truly good for them. We voluntarily hear from hundreds of consumers who reach out to thank us by telephone, email and social media. Only MELT Organic has been Autism Hope Alliance approved since 2015 given each of our products features Virgin Coconut Oil and deliver allergen-free benefits. Rich & Creamy MELT was also recently ranked #1 among 20 competitive spreads by Eat This, Not That!”

Actions Prosperity Organic Foods takes to “B The Change” daily: “Daily choices and business decisions are guided by our mission and our commitment to pursue practices that respect humanity and the environment. We are advocates via social media and our direct-to-consumer newsletters for improvements in our food supply, such as supporting labeling products made with GMOs.”

If you want to form a B Corp… “Explore the criteria for becoming a certified B Corporation to use as guidelines for your purpose-driven organization. Even if you do not qualify from the beginning, this approach will ensure your strategic planning and daily decision making reflect the values and practices that will be rewarding to you as founders.”

A bright future for B Corporations: “The future looks bright for the B Corporation movement with the values it represents being broadly adopted. We appreciate the opportunity to connect with other B Corporations and collaborate on new opportunities.”

About Meg Carlson, Healthy Consumer Products Leader at Prosperity Organic Foods

We are committed to creating great tasting organic products through innovative uses of organic fruit- and plant-based fats and oils so you can eat better, feel better and live better. Prosperity Organic Foods was founded by Cygnia Rapp who began her own search for the truth about healthy fats and oils after dietary restrictions meant giving up her favorite foods. Our flagship product, Rich & Creamy MELT Organic, proved to be a hit with consumers who are no longer faced with choosing between butter, butter substitutes, or margarine. With growing consumer demand, she expanded her personal efforts to include a team of dedicated people committed to helping the company bringing great tasting products featuring innovative uses of fruit- and plant-based fats to market. Today our team is led by healthy consumer products leader, Meg Carlson, and a small but dedicated team of enthusiastic and talented employees. We are focused on contributing to your goals simply by helping you replace other dietary fats in your daily diet. With luscious spreads like Rich & Creamy MELT Organic, Honey MELT Organic and NEW Chocolate MELT Organic, we are working to make it easier for you to make great food choices every day.
